Fraser’s Highlander Grave

Monument

Front Description

Soldiers of the 71st Regiment of Foot, Frazer’s Highlanders
This area was heavily contested near the end of the Battle of Camden as the 1st Maryland Brigade was pushed back from their position to the south by the British right wing. As the American faltered, Lord Cornwallis deployed his infantry reserved, comprised of two battalions of the veteran 71st Regiment of Foot, Fraser’s Highlands. The flag marks the exact location where a highlander killed in battle was formally buried after the battle. Archaeologists carefully excavated the burial for identification purposes and on May 22, 2024, he was reinterred with honor below the flag. Attending the reinterment was a detachment of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Assistant Military Attache’ of the British Embassy.
