This Pre-Revolutionary single house is one of a group of three dwellings including 56 and 60 Church Street built c. 1754 by James Verree, a house carpenter. The Verree House was purchased in 1784 by Thomas Heyward, a signer of The Declaration of Independence. The garden was designed by noted landscape architect Loutrel Briggs in 1942 and was considered his favorite garden.
