Marker For Three Unknown British Soldiers

Monument

Front Description

These three British Soldiers were wounded at the Battle of Cowpens and brought to Hannah’s Cow Pens and the Dogwood Spring for possible medical attention. The Spring was just off the Old Cherokee Ford Road. They bled to death shortly after they arrived and now fill unknown soldiers’ graves, “Unwept, unhonored, and unsung.” They were buried near the spring with the permission of Patriot Captain Vardry McBee Sr. and his wife, Hannah Echols, who owned the land. Hannah’s Cow Pens was lost in bankruptcy proceedings, and the spring was later renamed The Limestone Spring.
